Individualized Student Transition Planning

In order to support students prior, during, and after their transition to Kindergarten, the KRP program incorporates the following components:

      1. 1. Kindergarten Integration

The Kindergarten Readiness programs are self-contained early intervention classrooms housed in local elementary schools. This provides the opportunity for KRP students to ‘practice’ attending a Kindergarten classroom prior to their transition to Kindergarten. In addition to providing students with the opportunity to participate in components of the Kindergarten curriculum, this also allows KRP supervisors and BCBAs to identify areas within a regular education Kindergarten classroom where students may struggle. The multiple aspects of the KRP inform further intervention, as well as assist in helping prepare the receiving school for the student’s individual needs.

        2. Kindergarten Transition Support Program

The Kindergarten Transition Support Program is offered to graduates on the KRP who are transitioning into elementary school in September. While the service is offered to all graduates transitioning into both public and private schools, SBAI has formed a special partnership with the Surrey School District to ensure continuity of support for our students during the important milestone of kindergarten transition. Below is a general timeline of the Kindergarten Transition Support Program:

    • January to June: Information sharing between the KRP and the school teams
    • September: gradual entry support from the KRP transition support team
    • October to December: In-person observations from the KRP transition support team once every 2-3 weeks. Collaboration at IEP meeting.
    • January to June: On-going consultative support from the KRP transition support team.

        3. On-Going School Consultation and Summer Program

The KRP offers on-going school consultation for our graduates. This involves school observations to provide recommendations and strategies to support the school team, as well as collaboration at the IEP meeting. Additionally, graduates can return to the KRP for our summer program which runs for 5 weeks of the summer. Please note, the summer program is currently only available for our returning KRP graduates.
